The idea in one paragraph
Total knee replacement is a highly successful operation with a genuinely hard first few weeks. Much of that early pain travels along identifiable sensory nerves around the knee. iovera° uses controlled cold to temporarily interrupt those nerves before the operation, so that the signal is already quieter when you wake up from surgery. The manufacturer's published clinical data associates this with lower post-operative pain scores and reduced opioid use after total knee arthroplasty.*
It does not replace your surgeon's anaesthetic or pain plan. It sits alongside it.

Honest expectations
This is a pain-reduction strategy, not a guarantee. Recovery from a knee replacement is still work: swelling, stiffness, physical therapy and a real timeline. Individual results vary and no treatment guarantees complete or permanent relief. What we can tell you is what the published data shows and what we have seen across nine years of iovera° practice.
Cost
iovera° is self-pay — $895 per treatment. It is not billed to Medicare or Medicare Advantage. That price covers the evaluation, the ultrasound assessment, the treatment in your home, written aftercare and the follow-up call, with no travel or facility fee. Payment is due at the time of treatment.
HSA and FSA funds can be used. This is treatment of a diagnosed condition by a licensed clinician, which meets the IRS definition of a medical expense (IRS Publication 502), and we provide the itemized paid receipt your plan administrator will ask for. See HSA and FSA payment.
